Hi! My name’s Jackson. I’m a 2nd year PhD student at Johns Hopkins University working under the guidance of Prof. Timothy Weihs. My primary research focus is examining the oxidation behavior of refractory medium-entropy alloys as a function of composition. Through horizontal physical vapor deposition (sputtering), we carefully control the composition of alloys and examine how compositional variation affects properties.
Prior to joining the Weihs Group, I completed degrees in Materials Science and Engineering (B.Sc.) and Arabic Language and Culture (B.A.) at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. During my undergraduate career, I earned a Reactor Operator License from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for the NC State PULSTAR Nuclear Reactor. In addition to my experience with nuclear energy and materials, I have also worked with Lucideon M+P, a materials development and testing consultancy, to synthesize and characterize novel materials. Outside of academics, I enjoy rock climbing, ultimate frisbee, data science and visualization, and playing chess.
