    • Mentored a diverse group of sophomores through seniors in high school during a week-long residential summer camp.
    • Prepared worksheets in order to ensure activities were engaging, educational, and inspired curiosity within the students.
    • Performed a number of testing and characterization methods including tensile testing, impact testing, and electron microscopy on metal and polymer samples in order to demonstrate fundamental materials science concepts and characterization techniques.

    • Validate theoretical phase predictions through synthesis of ternary and quaternary oxides in the Center for Dielectrics and Piezoelectrics at North Carolina State University.
    • Characterize prepared materials through a variety of materials characterization techniques including Bragg-Brentano x-ray diffraction (XRD), in-situ XRD (25-1200C), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with backscatter and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) modes, thermogravimetric analysis/differential thermal analysis (DTA/TGA), and Archimedes' density measurements.
    • Determine phase and material composition from room temperature and in-situ XRD data using PANanalytical X'Pert HighScore and MATLAB.
    • Perform several ceramic preparation techniques including milling, calcinations, and quench experiments.
    • Prepare materials for characterization including washing with deionized water and acids and sample polishing.
    • Perform calculations relating to solubility and acid/base reactions.

    • Student intern at GG-0899–5 level for the Non-Power Production and Utilization Facilities Licensing Branch in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation.

    • Supported licensing activities including drafting audit letters, facilitating public meetings, proofing licensing documents, and other technical writing.
    • Assisted in drafting of Regulatory Guide 2.8 for Research and Test Reactors.
    • Developed and implemented data visualizations in order to gauge branch performance using Microsoft PowerBI and R-programming.
    • Conducted research project comparing peaking factors and other reactor characteristics for TRIGA and TRIGA conversion reactors.

    • Design apparatuses for experimental applications including molten salt designs and detector irradiation.
    • Perform gamma spectroscopy on irradiated samples to determine elemental composition.
    • Coordinate, design, and administer training activities for upcoming class of reactor operators.
    • Conduct startup and shutdown of 1 megawatt pool-type reactor in accordance with procedures and operations manuals.
    • Maintain steady state conditions by monitoring nuclear instrumentation and controls of the nuclear reactor.
    • Load and unload samples from experimental facilities in accordance with procedures.
    • Supervise use of Neutron Powder Diffraction Facility, Neutron Imaging Facility, Intense Positron Beam, and other experimental facilities.
